Flu Vaccinations - Check Back Here for Future Updates
Protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and other patients. Support your GP practice and have the flu vaccination with us.

Flu Vaccinations Dates

The practice orders and pays for a flu vaccination for all our patients that are eligible for one, if you have your vaccination at a pharmacy or other provider we will have to destroy the one we have bought for you. The income from flu vaccinations is very important to the practice and we ask that you have your vaccination with us.

The vaccines for the over 65 year old have arrived in the practice, please come along to the drop in session on the 24th September 2019, see details below.

We will update this news page when vaccines for other patients arrive.

Flu Vaccinations Dates

24th September, drop in session, no appointment necessary, come into the practice between 2pm and 4pm to receive your free vaccination. This session is for patients over 65 years of age only.

Why have the flu vaccine?

Flu is an unpredictable virus that and can be unpleasant, but if you are otherwise healthy it will usually clear up on its own within a week.

It can cause severe illness and even death among vulnerable groups including older people, pregnant women and people with an underlying health condition.

Certain people are more likely to develop potentially serious complications of flu, such as bronchitis and pneumonia. These people are advised to have a flu vaccine each year.

For otherwise healthy people, flu can be very unpleasant however most people will recover from flu within a week or 2.

Named GPs
The Department of Health require all patients to have a named, allocated GP and Birley Health Centre has signed up to this. All patients now have a named allocated GP on their computer records at the practice. Patients have the option to request a specific named GP (such request will be considered) and patients can telephone the practice at any time to find out who their named allocated GP is. This is purely an administrative requirement from the Department of Health and in no way at all restricts patients from seeing any doctor working at the practice. Nor does it ensure that a patient will always see their allocated named GP.
